A method to provide hourly concentration distributions is developed and evaluated. The method is based on data for emissions from five groups of sources, wind and dispersion conditions. Measurements of daily mean SO2-con-centrations are used to evaluate the model. The evaluation shows that the results are reasonable. Observed concentrations are underestimated in pollution episodes characterized by synoptic scale subsidence in the atmosphere and local winds that varies in space and time. Results of a local wind model based on hydrodynamic equation fail to explain these wind and dispersion conditions. When observed and calculated concentration values are combined, receptor model calculations indicate that high level as well as low level emissions accumulate in the air-sheed.
