Evaluation of abatement measures for PM10 in Oslo and Trondheim for the year 2010.
Abstract
Commissioned by SFT, NILU has performed dispersion and exposure calculations to investigate the extent of abatement measures needed in order to fulfil the goals defined in the ”National Air Quality Target for PM10”. This target specifies that at most 7 days during a year the inhabitants are allowed exposure levels of PM10 above an average value of 50 μg/m^3. This target is to be met within the year 2010. The simulation results show that traffic specific measures are clearly needed. Especially, it is recommended that as much as 95 % of the vehicles need to be equipped with un-studded tyres. Furthermore, a reduction in vehicle speed to a maximum allowed speed of 60 km/h gives promising results. In order to further reduce the number of inhabitants exposed beyond the target value, a combination of additional traffic measures and specific measures to reduce emissions from domestic wood burning should be considered.
