A bilateral exposure programme has been carried out along the Norwegian-Russian border. The aim has been to perform a qualitative evaluation of the effect of sulphur pollutants on the atmospheric corrosion in subarctic climate. The corrosion of steel was shown to be best described by equations which combined the effect of SO2 and the time of wetness. A system for determining the limit target SO2 level is described.
