The human exposure of lead was estimated from inhalation and ingestion. Indoor/outdoor concentrations, human activity patterns, concentrations in different compartments and the consumption of food made it possible to estimate the inhalation and dietary intake of lead. In cities, where traffic is an important source to lead concentrations, the inhalation part of the total intake might represent a significant pathway of lead entering the human body. For people living and working in Oslo centrum the inhalation part might be up to 30%.
